Running for Furry Friends

hollywood half marathon

It’s official: I’ve caught the running bug.

I made it my new year’s resolution to complete a half marathon this year and I did it! I trained for my first race in January and completed the Hollywood Half Marathon in April.

What’s so amazing about putting your body through hours of torture, sweat dripping down your face, and hundreds of other people jogging alongside you?

Besides the endorphins, the running ‘high,’ the cheering crowds, the shiny new medal you receive as a finisher, and the sense of accomplishment, you are also contributing to another great charity.

Since one time was not enough, I am running the Rock N Roll Half Marathon in Los Angeles at the end of this month. Hundreds of people will be donning Halloween costumes as we run through downtown Los Angeles on a route lined with DJ’s and bands at every mile.

Each year all proceeds go towards the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). This non-profit advocates humane treatment of all animals and provides aid to at-risk and abused victims of animal cruelty. The animals are cared for in shelters and when rehabilitated, are available for adoption.

Check out this short video on the ASPCA YouTube channel documenting the journey of an abandoned pit bull named Chuck who recuperated nicely thanks to ASPCA:

If you love animals, please take the time to donate to ASPCA or join the race on October 26th in Los Angeles. See you there!
